Land of the Chinook Winds

Canadian Wonders to be Discovered on the Roads Less Travelled

Land of the Chinook Winds

Frequent warm and dry Chinook winds blowing over this region from the Rockies have created idyllic ranching country filled with rich grasslands in the Foothills to the Prairie. Southern Alberta has been blessed with spectacular Rocky Mountain scenery and is dotted with many charming places to visit. As you travel through the “quiet” scenic areas of southern Alberta, you will learn about the ranching history in the Foothills, experience the First Nations rich history and customs, and visit one of the most beautiful and best kept secrets among the national parks in Canada.

Along this route in the land of the Chinook arch, you can experience a variety of adventures. Learn what it takes to be a cowboy at the Bar U Ranch. Walk to the base of a buffalo jump site. Take a hike or horseback ride along a variety of beautiful trails in Waterton Lakes National Park. Walk or float down the Milk River passing by fascinating Hoodoos. Visit one of the richest fossil sites in the world at Dinosaur Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
